Is Kenya Film Board sleeping on the job?

Letter to the editor published in the East African Standard, 6 September 2006
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Although a majority of Bollywood movies can pass for family entertainment, a lot of them are fast changing and portraying diverse issues and have scenes unsuitable for General Exhibition (GE).

For example, the movie Kabhi Alvida na Kehna, that was recently playing on local screens was rated either as ‘GE’ or ‘TBA’. The term ‘TBA’ generally means ‘to be announced’ or ‘to be determined’. Unless this is a new rating category created by the Kenya Film Board, I am not aware of any such rating.

The Board must keep pace with changing times and exercise due diligence when reviewing such movies and rate them appropriately.

I was embarrassed to watch the movie with my young and inquisitive cousins.
